Regional development of National Waterways including Northeast, Southern, and other regions (project status and installations)

What happened (region-wise status of IWT works on National Waterways)

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways released a PIB update with region-wise implementation status for Inland Water Transport works across multiple National Waterways. The update covers completed and ongoing shore-side infrastructure (terminals, jetties, Ro-Ro facilities), fairway development through dredging, and navigation-support readiness through hydrographic surveys and navigation information components.

Northeast region: NW-2 and NW-16—completed terminals and ongoing fairway, ship repair and jetties

For the Northeast region, the PIB update lists completed works including the MMLP Jogighopa terminal, Bogibeel cargo-cum-tourist terminal, Dhubri and Bogibeel customs/immigration buildings, and the NH-27 approach road.

Ongoing Northeast works include fairway development via dredging (DCI) on NW-2; a ship repair facility at Pandu; tourist jetty at Bishwanath Ghat and a cargo-cum-cruise terminal at Neamati Ghat; a regional centre of excellence at Dibrugarh; a steel gangway with yoke system at Pandu; and regional facilities including a regional office, MSDC, guest house, and ITAT building at Fancy Bazar. The update also includes a link road connecting Pandu terminal with the ship repair facility, plus additional pontoons and vessels. The PIB update additionally mentions mathematical modelling for the Bogibeel approach channel and DPR (Detailed Project Report) preparation for community jetties.
