Indian Railways approves ₹499 crore doubling of Mansi–Saharsa section in Bihar
Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the Mansi–Saharsa rail section in Bihar to ease congestion on a heavily used passenger-freight corridor.
- The Ministry of Railways said the Mansi–Saharsa section already faces line-capacity stress because it handles dense passenger and freight traffic on a single line.
- Indian Railways expects the doubling project to improve operational efficiency, punctuality and freight handling on the corridor.
Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 44.40 km Mansi–Saharsa section in Bihar at a cost of ₹499 crore. The project is intended to expand line capacity on a corridor that is already under strain from heavy passenger and freight movement.
What existed earlier
The Mansi–Saharsa section of the East Central Railway is currently a single-line corridor. According to the Ministry of Railways, the section handles 24 pairs of passenger trains in each direction and also carries essential commodities such as wheat, maize, ballast, boiled rice, cement, fertilisers, rice, salt, sand, stone and sugar.
