What happened
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Governor-General of Australia, the Hon. Ms. Sam Mostyn AC, in Melbourne on 9 July 2026. The discussion focused on the growing depth and diversity of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Both sides welcomed the expanding economic partnership and expressed confidence that stronger cooperation in trade, investment, education, and innovation would create new opportunities and deliver benefits to people in both countries.
They also noted the growing sporting ties and called for closer cooperation in the run up to the Commonwealth Games 2030, to be hosted by India, and the Olympics 2032, to be hosted in Australia.
The Prime Minister underlined that people-to-people links remain a source of strength in the relationship and appreciated Governor-General Mostyn’s support for advancing India-Australia ties.
