The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) held its 29th Meeting at the Central Academy for State Forest Service (CASFOS), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on 9 July 2026. The meeting matters for UPSC because it reflects how India reviews tiger-conservation governance through institutions, data, and field-level management rather than only through legal protection.
The meeting was chaired by Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Chairperson, NTCA. It was attended by Members of Parliament Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Harish Chandra Meena, other Members of the Authority, senior officers of the Ministry, Chief Wildlife Wardens of tiger-range States, and Field Directors of tiger reserves.
What happened
The Authority discussed key policy, management, and institutional issues related to tiger conservation and wildlife management in India. The focus was on strengthening protection, improving management practices, and enhancing conservation outcomes across tiger landscapes. It also reviewed implementation of earlier decisions and considered new proposals for tiger and habitat conservation.
