What happened

At the Land Border Districts’ Superintendents of Police Conference–2026 in New Delhi on 9 July 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India’s border security system is moving towards a Smart Border model. He said the conference has given an institutional shape to a comprehensive approach to border security and that the government will also move holistically towards coastal border security.

The conference was attended by Union Ministers of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Directors General of Police of border states, and senior officials.
