The Department of Commerce reviewed the ongoing Andhra Pradesh Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco marketing season 2025–26 in Hyderabad. The review is relevant for UPSC because it links agricultural marketing, exporter access, institutional reform, and farmer welfare in one sector-specific meeting.
A team of senior officers from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, led by Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, held discussions with tobacco growers, manufacturers, exporters, dealers, trade associations and the Tobacco Board.
What happened
The meeting reviewed the prevailing market situation and, according to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of tobacco growers. The discussion focused on speeding up procurement, facilitating exports, and strengthening the overall marketing ecosystem for FCV tobacco.
