The Ministry of Food Processing Industries said the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme has crossed a major milestone with more than two lakh loan sanctions for micro food processing enterprises. The release said the scheme has leveraged over Rs. 20,300 crores in project investments and generated nearly 11 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
The Ministry held a special event in New Delhi on 11 July 2026 to mark the milestone. Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan presided over the programme and described the result as evidence of scale and reach across States.
UPSC may ask how a credit-linked scheme can move micro food processors from informality to formal market participation while also improving value addition, branding, and local employment. The scheme also offers a case study on convergence between finance, capacity building, and district-level product ecosystems.
