What happened

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) carried out a special inspection drive in Noida and Greater Noida on 10 July 2026 to assess redevelopment of urban roads under its Standard Framework. The inspection covered 17 road stretches measuring about 46.87 kilometres.

The inspection found that 9 road stretches had end-to-end paving, while 8 road stretches still lacked complete end-to-end paving. CAQM said the remaining gaps require timely completion of redevelopment works.

The UPSC angle · GS3 · Essay

UPSC can frame the CAQM inspection as a case study in how urban infrastructure design, municipal compliance, and enforcement institutions affect air quality. The issue connects static concepts such as particulate pollution, road dust resuspension, and regulatory monitoring with the practical limits of inter-agency coordination in Delhi-NCR.
