The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) marked its 172nd Annual Day on 12 July 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was used to project CPWD’s transition toward digital project management, transparency, sustainable construction and capacity building in public works.
What happened
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said Shri Manohar Lal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, attended as Chief Guest, along with Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Shri Satinder Pal Singh, Director General, CPWD; Shri Mohd. Kamal Ahmad, Director General (Training), CPWD; and Shri Pradeep Kumar Jha, Joint Secretary (Works & Central Vista), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, were also present.
The Minister released Technical Publications, Nirman Bharati, and the newly developed e-NIRMIT ERP Modules. He also released the book India's Urban Transformation: Reflections from Policy and Practice and the Ministry’s coffee table book India's Urban Momentum: Towards Making Our Cities Liveable.
Background and earlier position
CPWD is described by the Ministry as a premier engineering organisation of the Government of India. The Annual Day was used to connect CPWD’s long institutional history with current reform priorities in construction technology, public infrastructure and urban development.
