The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has announced a new Rameshwar–Paradeep Coastal Highway in Odisha. The corridor is intended to improve connectivity across the state’s coastal belt and to link transport, tourism, and economic nodes along the eastern coastline.
The project covers a 160.18 km corridor with a total capital cost of ₹8,300.79 crore. It will pass through Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts.
What the corridor includes
The highway design combines different road standards to improve movement across the coastal belt:
A 4-lane access-controlled highway from Rameshwar to Konark.A 2-lane highway with paved shoulders from Konark to Paradeep.A design speed of 100 km/hour for the corridor.An expected reduction of travel time between Rameshwar and Paradeep by nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes.
