The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is linking Skill Hubs, tribal skilling centres, and school-based vocational labs to expand training and livelihood options in tribal areas. The policy significance lies in convergence: tribal welfare missions, school infrastructure, and skill development programmes are being used together to improve employability, entrepreneurship, and local value addition.
What the Government of India has highlighted
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is implementing Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) through Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation (TRIFED) to promote livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurship among tribal communities. The scheme focuses on value addition, branding, and marketing of minor forest produce and local agricultural goods.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has sanctioned 4,172 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) under PMJVM, with 12,48,067 members associated across the country. In Dahod, Gujarat, 20 VDVKs have been sanctioned for 5,900 beneficiaries.
The Government of India has also placed two flagship tribal development missions at the centre of its tribal policy architecture: Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) and Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyaan (PM-JANMAN). DAJGUA is described as a comprehensive development mission for tribal areas and communities, while PM-JANMAN is aimed at benefit saturation in tribal regions.
