What happened (PMKVY 4.0 announcement and key numbers)

MSDE announced Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 as a demand-driven skilling programme that aligns training with industry requirements in emerging and future technologies. MSDE stated that PMKVY 4.0 introduced more than 600 courses in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Drone Technology, 5G, Solar Energy, Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Semiconductors, and the Internet of Things (IoT). As on 30 June 2026, MSDE stated that more than 5.44 lakh candidates have been trained in these sectors.

MSDE also stated that PMKVY 4.0 used ₹414.86 crore for training under future/new edge job roles, including drone technology, artificial intelligence, and green energy maintenance. MSDE further stated that PMKVY 4.0 embeds On-the-Job Training (OJT) inside training courses to provide workplace exposure and improve employability outcomes.

Demand-driven design: how training targets are decided

MSDE stated that PMKVY 4.0 is demand driven, meaning training targets are approved based on proposals submitted by Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs). MSDE stated that approvals consider the skill gap, so that course demand reflects emerging job needs rather than only generic training demand.

MSDE stated that to support new age courses, the highest training cost as per Common Norms of ₹49 per hour is provided to training providers. MSDE stated that this financial support is meant to ensure access to suitable training infrastructure, tools, equipment, and qualified trainers required for implementing advanced job roles.
