What happened
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken suo motu cognizance of allegations involving girl students in a government school in Liwali village, Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan.
According to the allegation, two teachers frisked girl students of classes IX and XI, forced them to remove their clothes, and beat them after one teacher allegedly lost Rs. 1,000. The students reportedly returned home and informed their parents, and a large number of parents later protested at the school.
UPSC may frame the issue around the National Human Rights Commission’s statutory mandate, protection of children and women in public institutions, and administrative accountability in schools. The issue also fits GS4 through dignity, abuse of authority, and ethical conduct of public servants.
