What happened

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken suo motu cognizance of allegations involving girl students in a government school in Liwali village, Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan.

According to the allegation, two teachers frisked girl students of classes IX and XI, forced them to remove their clothes, and beat them after one teacher allegedly lost Rs. 1,000. The students reportedly returned home and informed their parents, and a large number of parents later protested at the school.

Why the NHRC intervened

The NHRC said that, if the allegations are true, the incident raises serious issues of violation of human rights of the girl students. The Commission has issued a notice to the Rajasthan Chief Secretary and sought a detailed report within two weeks.
