What happened
The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, said in the Lok Sabha that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is being implemented across States and Union Territories for fisheries development. The statement also placed Uttar Pradesh and Chandauli district within that larger implementation picture.
Background and earlier position
PMMSY is the Union Government's flagship fisheries scheme. It was launched for the financial year 2020-21 and is meant to support productivity, infrastructure, value chain development, and livelihoods in the fisheries sector.
What changed now
The Ministry stated that the scheme has a total investment of Rs. 20,990.79 crore from 2020-21 to the present. It also stated that fisheries development proposals from the Government of Uttar Pradesh have been approved at a total cost of Rs. 1,294.32 crore, with a central share of Rs. 412.30 crore. The Ministry further stated that Rs. 336.61 crore has been released to Uttar Pradesh from 2020-21 to 2026-27.
