What happened

The Department of Fisheries, Government of India reviewed implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in Maharashtra through physical meetings, virtual meetings, field visits, and digital monitoring on a dedicated centralized platform. The review focused on project approvals, fund release, project completion, and the fisheries infrastructure created under the scheme.

Scheme progress in Maharashtra

The Union Government has approved fisheries development proposals from the Government of Maharashtra for the period 2020-21 to 2026-27. The approvals cover fisheries production, productivity, cold-chain development, marketing facilities, sustainability of resources, and safety and welfare of fishermen.

The Ministry said beneficiary selection and project implementation are handled by the respective State Governments and Union Territories. Maharashtra has also reported a large number of active beneficiary-oriented projects, with a majority already completed and the rest expected to add more livelihood gains when finished.
