What happened
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that India is using a multi-agency enforcement strategy to prevent illicit trafficking of narcotics. The approach combines the Narcotics Control Bureau, State Police, and other drug law enforcement agencies under the NDPS Act, 1985, along with coordination, intelligence-sharing, financial investigation, and capacity-building measures.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also said that a Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-2029) was released on 26 June 2026 to provide a three-year road map with time-bound targets and a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach.

The Government of India has used the NCORD mechanism and a Joint Coordination Committee chaired by the Director General, Narcotics Control Bureau, for significant cases.
