What happened

The Union Government has reiterated in Lok Sabha that the PM-YASASVI (Prime Minister Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India) umbrella scheme supports educational opportunities for students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT). The reply presented the scheme as a tool to reduce financial barriers and improve access to school and higher education.

Scheme structure

The government said that PM-YASASVI is an umbrella scheme built around four scholarship components. These are the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the Top Class Education in Schools Scheme, and the Top Class Education in Colleges Scheme.

Why the scheme matters

The scheme is relevant because scholarship support is a direct instrument of social justice and inclusive education. For UPSC, PM-YASASVI is useful for revising how targeted financial assistance can address access barriers faced by disadvantaged communities, especially at school and post-school stages.
