Indian Railways has expanded recruitment through an Annual Recruitment Calendar and mission-mode Centralized Employment Notifications (CENs) for non-gazetted staff. The Ministry of Railways says the shift is meant to make recruitment more predictable, faster, and better aligned with operational and technological needs in a very large public utility.
What happened
The Ministry of Railways informed the Lok Sabha that recruitment and vacancy filling in Indian Railways is a continuous process because of the organisation’s size, spatial spread, and operational criticality. The Ministry said vacancies are filled mainly through recruitment agencies and through Railway Recruitment Board examinations, especially for technical and large-scale recruitment categories.
The Ministry also said that Indian Railways introduced an Annual Calendar from 2024 for recruitment to various categories of Group C posts. According to the Ministry, the calendar is intended to give aspirants more opportunities, certainty over examination timing, and quicker movement from examination to training and appointment.
What changed now
The release reports that recruitment against vacancies of non-gazetted personnel is being taken up under Annual Calendar 2024, 2025 and 2026. The Ministry said that recruitment activity has been organised across multiple annual cycles rather than through isolated notifications.
