What happened
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has stated in the Rajya Sabha that no proposal for setting up a tribal-focused museum in Jharkhand is currently under consideration. The same reply also restated the Ministry’s support for Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) through a Centrally Sponsored Scheme that funds museum development, documentation, training, and cultural preservation.
Background and earlier position
The Ministry’s scheme Support to Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) came into effect on 14 December 2017. The scheme is designed to strengthen State and Union Territory Tribal Research Institutes with infrastructure, research support, training, and activities linked to tribal culture and heritage.
TRIs function under State Government or Union Territory Administration control, but the Ministry of Tribal Affairs provides financial support after examining Annual Action Plans through an Apex Committee chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The scheme is demand-driven, so States and Union Territories submit projects according to their requirements.
