What happened

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises reported that PM Vishwakarma implementation has commenced in West Bengal. West Bengal issued a notification dated 14.05.2026 constituting a State Monitoring Committee and District Implementation Committees for the scheme’s roll-out in the state.

Background and earlier position

PM Vishwakarma was launched on 17.09.2023 to provide end-to-end holistic support to artisans and craftspeople of 18 traditional trades who work with their hands and tools. The scheme covers 18 trades: Carpenter, Boat Maker, Armourer, Metal Artisan, Tool Kit Maker, Locksmith, Goldsmith, Potter, Sculptor/Stone Worker, Cobbler/Footwear Artisan, Mason, Basket/Mat/Broom Maker, Toy Maker (Traditional), Barber, Garland Maker, Washerman, Tailor and Fishing Net Maker.

What changed now

West Bengal’s notification dated 14.05.2026 operationalised the state’s implementation architecture for PM Vishwakarma by constituting a State Monitoring Committee and District Implementation Committees. This institutional setup enabled the commencement of scheme implementation in the state.
