What happened

NHAI extended the “Clean Toilet Picture Challenge” until 30 June 2027 to further enhance cleanliness and user experience at toilet facilities along National Highways. NHAI also stated that the extension supports continued public participation, time-bound processing of eligible claims, and timely FASTag recharge credit linked to the scheme.

How the challenge works

Under the scheme, National Highway users submit photos of unclean toilets through the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. NHAI states that submissions are assessed, with eligible claims processed in a time-bound manner. FASTag recharge rewards are credited to the linked Vehicle Registration Number (VRN), and NHAI applies AI-assisted screening and manual validation as required.

Background and earlier position

NHAI launched the “Clean Toilet Picture Challenge” in September 2025. The scheme enables citizen reporting specifically for toilet facilities constructed, operated, or maintained under NHAI’s jurisdiction, with exclusions for toilet facilities not controlled by NHAI.
