What happened: NHAI–NRSB institutional meeting on strengthening National Highway road safety

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Road Safety Board (NRSB) held an institutional meeting at NHAI Headquarters in New Delhi to undertake a comprehensive review of road safety systems on the National Highway network. The meeting included Dr. Nitin R. Gokarn, Chairman, National Road Safety Board, and Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, NHAI Chairman, along with NRSB members, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways officials, NHAI officials, State Administrations, and road safety experts.

NHAI presented an overview of current road safety management covering road safety performance and emerging trends, institutional arrangements and governance, highway safety engineering and operations, road safety audits and black spot management, and speed management. The presentation also covered Intelligent Transport Systems (technology-based traffic and safety tools), technology-enabled interventions, emergency response and post-crash care, monitoring and performance management systems, citizen engagement and user-centric services, and commercial vehicle safety and driver welfare.

The NHAI–NRSB interaction was described as the start of a structured and sustained institutional partnership aimed at strengthening the road safety ecosystem on National Highways through better governance and faster accident reduction efforts.
