What happened: NHAI extends online Digital FASTag “Local Pass” to 121 toll plazas

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) extended the online facility for Digital FASTag “Local Pass” to 121 toll plazas across India. Eligible commuters can subscribe for a monthly Local Pass online using the Rajmargyatra Mobile App, removing the need for physical visits to toll plazas and manual submission of supporting documents.

NHAI says the digital Local Pass uses technology to improve transparency and efficiency in tolling operations. NHAI also stated that the facility was first launched in July 2026 at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi, and was then expanded to over 120 toll plazas across the country. The facility is planned for rollout to more toll plazas in the coming months.

Background and earlier position: Local Pass earlier required physical visits and paper checks

Before the digital Local Pass facility, commuters who wanted a Local Pass had to visit the concerned toll plaza physically. Commuters then had to submit documents to prove residential address eligibility within the specified radius of the toll plaza and meet other eligibility requirements.

What changed now: online subscription, consent-based data, and GIS-based 20 km eligibility
