What happened

Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, addressed the concluding session of a two-day Conclave of State and UT Education Ministers to review Centrally Sponsored Schemes of the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education. The conclave was held at ICAR–National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), New Delhi. The Minister stressed implementation challenges and the need for Centre–State/UT collaboration so that every child, teacher and school can realise its full potential under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, linked with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Background and earlier position

The conclave’s focus reflects a recurring governance approach for centrally sponsored education programmes: regular State/UT engagement to review implementation status, identify operational challenges, and share best practices. In such reviews, NEP 2020 goals are expected to be translated into school-level outcomes through scheme implementation, where nutrition and inclusion are treated as enabling components for improved learning.

What changed now

The second day of the Conclave explicitly organised discussions on key components of Samagra Shiksha and PM POSHAN under the PRAGATI platform, combining presentations and inputs from State and UT ministers and officials, along with an open-house session aimed at strengthening scheme implementation and learning outcomes. The Conclave also included technical presentations spanning PM SHRI, ULLAS, inclusive education, and skill education.
