What happened: NTTM launch, conference activity, and reported trade surplus (FY 2025-26)

The Ministry of Textiles launched the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) in 2020 to boost India’s technical textile sector. Under Component-II (Promotion and Market Development), the Ministry reported that a total of 47 national/international conferences have been organized or participated in by the Ministry of Textiles.

For trade performance, the Ministry reported that the domestic Technical Textiles industry recorded a net trade surplus of Rs. 3,420.20 crore in FY 2025-26, based on data from the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS) under the Ministry of Commerce.

The UPSC angle · GS3 · GS2

UPSC can examine how NTTM (promotion, awareness, stakeholder linkages, and demand creation) and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Textiles (investment and capacity-building in Technical Textiles) interact to move India from niche production to export competitiveness. The reported trade surplus provides a measurable trade indicator students can discuss alongside implementation methods (conferences, workshops, exhibitions, skill development, and recommended adoption).
