What happened (government approval and funding)
The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) to strengthen forensic infrastructure in identified locations across India. The approved financial outlay for NFIES is ₹2,254.43 crore for the period 2024-25 to 2028-29.
NFIES allocates funds for two major institutional components: expansion of National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) campuses and creation of Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs).
