What happened: Bharat 6G Alliance review and 5G Labs Excellence Awards (30 July 2026) at Vigyan Bhawan

On 30 July 2026, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia reviewed progress of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The review was held with Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, and Amit Agrawal, Secretary (Telecom).

The meeting covered Bharat 6G Alliance progress and action taken toward India’s 6G goals, including quarterly working-group updates across technology, applications/use cases, green and sustainability, spectrum, devices/components/manufacturing ecosystem, outreach, and 6G use-case and revenue streams.

The event also presented the 5G Labs Excellence Awards, based on cumulative performance during January–June 2026. Four award categories were instituted for cumulative performance in that period: 5G Lab Excellence Award, 5G Lab Utilisation Excellence Award, 5G Lab Engagement Excellence Award, and 5G Lab Innovation Excellence Award. IIITDM Kurnool secured first position in all four categories.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released India’s 6G vision document titled “Bharat 6G Vision” on 22 March 2023. The document envisages India as a front-line contributor in the design, development and deployment of 6G technology by 2030.
