What happened: tuition support enabled an OBC student to pursue an MBA

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment reported an example of how the Top Class Education Scheme for OBC Students supports OBC learners to access professional higher education. The beneficiary highlighted in the PIB communication is Mr. Akarsh S P, a 26-year-old student from Karnataka.

PIB states that Akarsh’s goal was to pursue an MBA from a premier institution. The cost of tuition fees and living expenses created a serious financial constraint for his family, and PIB also notes that limited access to career guidance and mentorship posed additional barriers.

To reduce the financial barrier, the Top Class Education Scheme for OBC Students provided tuition fee reimbursement amounting to ₹10,27,000 during the academic year 2025–26. PIB says the reimbursement reduced financial anxiety and allowed Akarsh to continue the MBA programme without interruption.

PIB further reports that after receiving the tuition fee reimbursement, Akarsh could focus on studies and participate in campus activities and entrepreneurship initiatives while pursuing the MBA.

The PIB communication attributes the beneficiary’s confidence and continued academic progress to the scholarship support, and includes the beneficiary’s quote that the scholarship “relieved my family from a significant financial burden” and gave him confidence for academics and entrepreneurship while pursuing the MBA.
