What happened: CSMC approval and progress update for PMAY-U 2.0

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs reported a milestone under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) and PMAY-U 2.0. The Government stated that over 1.25 crore houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 across India, and more than 1 crore houses have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries.

The 8th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U 2.0 was held on 6 August 2026 at Sankalp Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Shri Satendra Singh, Secretary, Department of Urban Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA. The meeting reviewed scheme progress and approved additional housing proposals submitted by States and Union Territories (States/UTs).

Background and earlier position: PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 structure

PMAY-U was launched in June 2015 with the vision of “Housing for All”. PMAY-U 2.0 builds on PMAY-U and targets housing needs of additional 1 crore eligible EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Lower Income Group), and MIG (Middle Income Group) urban families with annual income up to ₹9 lakh.

PMAY-U 2.0 uses multiple delivery verticals. In the CSMC meeting discussed in the update, houses were sanctioned under Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), along with other components later reflected in cumulative totals (Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) and Affordable Rental Housing (ARH)).
