What happened: PM-SETU scheme announced for upgraded ITIs and expanded NSTI capacity

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship announced the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme to enhance the quality and relevance of vocational training. PM-SETU aims to improve industrial training delivery through upgraded labs, machines, and industry-aligned curriculum, supported by stronger industry linkages and increased NSTI capacity.

What existed earlier (background position) and scheme structure

Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) are key institutions for vocational training in India. Under PM-SETU, the government positions ITI upgradation and NSTI capacity enhancement as two linked components, with industry participation in infrastructure and training design.
