What happened: MSDE outlines emerging-technologies upskilling under Skill India Mission

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) announced measures under the Government of India’s Skill India Mission (SIM) to skill, re-skill and up-skill youth through an extended network of skill development centres. MSDE linked the skilling push to industry-relevant emerging technologies and provided state-wise and job-role related training details (as shared in Annexure-I and Annexure-II in the government communication).

Key SIM channels mentioned in the announcement include: Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), delivered through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

MSDE stated that SIM aims to make youth “future-ready” with skills aligned to areas such as: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Cyber Security, Semiconductor Manufacturing and Green Technologies.

The SIM framework is described as operating through skill development schemes that already deliver training at scale through ITIs and other training centres. Under SIM, MSDE positions TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) as linked to employability through training and apprenticeship pathways such as NAPS and ITI-based programmes.
