Industry-led skilling under Skill India Mission
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship says that Skill India Mission is being used to deliver skill, re-skill, and up-skill training through schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The stated policy direction is to make training more industry-relevant and more closely linked to employability.
India’s skilling challenge is not only about access to training; it is also about matching training with labour-market demand, practical exposure, and future job roles. The current emphasis is on apprenticeship-linked learning, upgraded ITIs, and digital placement support.
What changed now
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has highlighted a stronger industry interface in the skilling ecosystem. The current package includes PMKVY 4.0, upgraded ITIs under PM-SETU, future-skills courses in Industrial Training Institutes and National Skill Training Institutes, and the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for jobs and apprenticeship access.
