DST under the Ministry of Science and Technology implements the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) with a reported total outlay of Rs 3660 crore for nine years. NM-ICPS was launched in 2018 to strengthen India’s capabilities in cyber-physical technologies and to support technology development and translation.
What happened
DST reports implementation of NM-ICPS through Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) established in 25 premier academic institutions. DST also reports that during 2025–26, four best-performing TIHs were upgraded as Technology Translation Research Parks (TTRPs) at IIT Kanpur, IISc Bengaluru, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and IIT Indore.
Background and earlier position
NM-ICPS has been structured around a hub model using TIHs for technology development, Human Resource Development (HRD) and skill development, innovation and start-up development, and international collaborations. The mission later strengthened sector-specific focus through priority Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) verticals anchored by lead TIHs/TTRPs.
