What happened: Dr. Jitendra Singh urged wider awareness of the Rs 1 lakh crore RDI Fund

Union Minister for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh urged greater awareness and stakeholder outreach about the Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. Dr. Jitendra Singh asked that eligible applicants understand the Fund’s purpose, eligibility, and the process for availing support. Dr. Jitendra Singh said that large numbers of applications show a need for clearer communication because some applicants do not appear to understand the Fund’s nature and purpose.

Dr. Jitendra Singh cautioned against a common misunderstanding that the RDI Fund is simply another source of finance or a conventional loan facility. Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the RDI Fund is meant to support technology development and research that contributes to progress of science and research and to overall growth of the national economy.

Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the funding process is transparent with proper safeguards. Dr. Jitendra Singh also said the government remains open to suggestions for further safeguards wherever feasible.

Background: TDB’s outreach and lab-to-market translation goal

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the Technology Development Board (TDB) role in educating intended stakeholders about the RDI Fund. Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that as technology and policy frameworks change, stakeholder mindsets must also change.
