What happened: CJP alleges post-assurance harassment and a mismatch on FIR withdrawal
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke warned the government to stop targeting students. Dipke alleged continued police harassment after the Centre gave assurances during a 36-day protest. Dipke said CJP would organise a large peaceful protest if harassment continues.
CJP said that on July 25, it called off its stir after the Centre agreed to key demands. CJP alleged that the Centre did not provide a promised written assurance by Tuesday night, despite a meeting and hearing of objections earlier in the day.
The dispute on FIR withdrawal showed differences across states and between police positions:
Bihar reportedly withdrew FIRs filed against protesters whose FIR registration was before 6 p.m. on July 26.Assam and West Bengal reportedly took similar steps on FIR withdrawal.Delhi Police did not confirm withdrawal and said it had not received orders to withdraw the FIRs.
