What happened: families of injured Delhi Police personnel demand a parliamentary hearing

Families of Delhi Police personnel injured during a crackdown linked to a march to Parliament by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on 20 July sought a discussion in Parliament about injuries suffered by policemen on duty.

At a press conference at the Constitution Club, families recounted their accounts and presented photographs of injured police personnel in a slideshow. Families claimed that more than 250 police personnel were injured.

Family members made multiple allegations and requests for fairness in public debate. An ASI family member alleged that “miscreants” attempted to disrupt students’ protest, tarnish the protest’s image, and undermine the dignity of Parliament, and urged accountability. A Delhi University student alleged that her father returned home with his uniform “soaked in blood” and that social media had already labelled him a criminal by the time she checked. Another family member of an injured ACP alleged that online videos portrayed police only as criminals and urged that the police-side account be heard in Parliament.
