What happened: campaign end for the Bankipur byelection
Campaigning ended for the 30 July 2026 Bankipur Assembly byelection in Bihar.
The byelection was for the Assembly seat vacated by Nitin Nabin, BJP national president, after Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
The campaign period was described as a contest mainly among the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Candidate selection highlighted the following named positions:
BJP fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, described as a 32-year-old youth wing leader. JSP was set to mark Prashant Kishor’s electoral debut; Prashant Kishor is described as 49 years old and as the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP). RJD nominated Rekha Kumari, described as the previous runner-up. Tejashwi Yadav joined the campaign for RJD.
