What happened: Emergency comparison during a Lok Sabha debate
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav compared the police action against students protesting the NEET-UG question paper leak to the Emergency period. He made the comparison while speaking in the Lok Sabha debate on the Anti-Unfair Means (AUM) amendment bill.
Yadav claimed that the Modi government was compelled to “bend” before an unprecedented student movement. He further alleged that police used lathis with spikes and electric batons against students, and he described scenes in Delhi as reminiscent of the Emergency.
Yadav also referenced the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, arguing that the resignation reflected pressure arising from the student agitation.
