What happened
The Joint Committee of Parliament examining the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025 has postponed its final meeting from July 18 to July 20. The postponement followed objections from the Andhra Pradesh government over provisions that could affect State universities and State legislative authority in higher education.
The Bill proposes a single apex regulator, the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan, to replace the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
