The court was also told that the related trial may conclude within three months, and it adjourned the bail hearing after taking note of the latest status report.
What happened
The information placed before the Supreme Court concerned a separate First Information Report (FIR) on alleged witness intimidation. According to the Uttar Pradesh police, the investigation in that FIR has been completed and no role was found for the Mishras in that separate offence.
Background and earlier position
The Lakhimpur Kheri violence occurred in 2021 at Tikunia during a protest. Eight people, including four farmers, died in the violence. The current Supreme Court hearing relates to bail and to the status of allegations arising from a distinct witness-intimidation FIR, not only to the original violence case.
