Ex-Minister, son not involved in witness intimidation in farmers’ death case

The Uttar Pradesh police told the Supreme Court that former minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish Mishra were not involved in the alleged intimidation of witnesses in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers’ deaths case. The court was also told that the related trial may conclude within three months, and it adjourned the bail hearing after taking note of the latest status report.
What happened
The information placed before the Supreme Court concerned a separate First Information Report (FIR) on alleged witness intimidation. According to the Uttar Pradesh police, the investigation in that FIR has been completed and no role was found for the Mishras in that separate offence.
