What happened: Rijiju met Rahul Gandhi during the Parliament logjam
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to seek a way to break the Parliament logjam (repeated disruption and blockage of normal legislative business). The meeting reportedly lasted nearly an hour and included Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal, Gaurav Gogoi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Kiren Rijiju, in the meeting, reportedly stated that there was no plan to hold a special session of Parliament to push the Women’s Reservation Bill and the delimitation Bill. Kiren Rijiju also reportedly indicated that the government was seeking the Congress party’s position on delimitation (redrawing electoral constituency boundaries).
Reported sources said Kiren Rijiju did not raise an extension of the Monsoon Session or the need for a special session during the meeting.
Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress leaders, reportedly conveyed issues that were described as non-negotiable for parliamentary proceedings. These issues included:
