The project is described as a nearly two-lakh-square-foot integrated sports-and-education campus intended to develop India’s next generation of Olympic athletes.
The centre is reported to have started with a badminton focus, and then planned expansion into a multi-sport facility happened after consultation with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The planned disciplines are: badminton, table tennis, swimming, shooting, football, basketball, and chess.
P.V. Sindhu reported that she and her husband studied leading global sports facilities in countries such as Qatar, Italy, and Australia to learn best practices.
The reported completion target for the P.V. Sindhu Centre for Sports Excellence is May 2028.
P.V. Sindhu stated that children should be able to try multiple sports before specializing, and the centre is meant to build a pathway to elite athletes. She framed the centre as a legacy beyond her personal achievements, emphasizing that medals inspire and institutions are needed to sustain long-term talent development.
