What happened
A special SC/ST court in Nagaur, Rajasthan acquitted all 40 accused in the 2015 Dangawas massacre case. The court’s reasoning described the underlying dispute as a land conflict in Dangawas village involving about 23 bighas.
The prosecution case involved deaths during violence in May 2015, including deaths of five Dalits. The court records presented victims’ deaths as the result of escalation between two groups.
The prosecution account included allegations that three victims were run over by a tractor. The account also described that another person from the opposing side also died.
Investigations in the matter were handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after the case was handed over to it.
After the acquittal, the complainant stated that the victims’ side would challenge the court order in the High Court and questioned who killed their family members.
