What happened now: Kerala’s IPoE nomination for the Mullaperiyar dam
Kerala nominated Ashutosh Dash as Kerala’s representative on the Independent Panel of Experts (IPoE) for the Mullaperiyar dam. Kerala’s stated objective is to ensure Kerala’s representation on the IPoE continues while the IPoE conducts the scheduled dam safety evaluation.
The reported controversy centres on Kerala’s protests over an NDSA action connected to IPoE representation linked to Kerala’s earlier nominee T.K. Sivarajan.
The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) wrote to Kerala on June 25, asking Kerala to nominate an expert to represent NDSA’s framework.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, stated that a Kerala-nominated member could not continue because of personal reasons.
