Voters flummoxed by ‘logical discrepancies’ during Karnataka SIR

What happened
Online enumeration forms used in Karnataka’s special intensive revision of electoral rolls reportedly began flagging “logical discrepancies” even before the draft electoral roll was published. The reported alerts appeared after form submission and asked voters to view the discrepancy flagged in the system.
One reported example described a mismatch in family linkage, where one person was shown as son or daughter of someone who was also claimed by six other persons as father. The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer said he was not aware of the reported alerts and would look into them.
UPSC may use Karnataka’s special intensive revision to test the Election Commission of India’s role in electoral-roll preparation, the risks of data-matching errors in voter databases, and the administrative safeguards needed to protect voter inclusion and due process in roll revision.
