Over 47 lakh voters flagged for possible deletion in Karnataka SIR
Karnataka’s special intensive revision has flagged large-scale voter entries for possible deletion, but Booth Level Officer findings will still face party verification and Electoral Registration Officer scrutiny before any roll change.

What happened
Karnataka’s ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has flagged more than 47 lakh voters for possible deletion. The Chief Electoral Officer for Karnataka, V. Anbu Kumar, said the flagged electors make up 8.48% of the state’s electorate and were identified during house-to-house verification started on June 30.
The Chief Electoral Officer said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) identified the electors under the ASDDO categories: Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate (Already Enrolled), and Others. The state has 5,54,32,314 electors on the rolls.
UPSC can frame Karnataka’s special intensive revision as a question on electoral-roll integrity, the legal-administrative process for inclusion and deletion, and the balance between accuracy of rolls and protection against wrongful exclusion of eligible voters.
