Delhi has announced a major expansion of its public transport fleet through the addition of 2,800 air-conditioned low-floor electric buses under Phase I of the PM e-Drive scheme. The move links cleaner urban transport with fleet modernisation and improved last-mile connectivity, especially in areas served by narrower roads.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the buses will be deployed by August 2028 and will take the city’s fleet to 14,000 in 2028-29. The plan divides the new buses equally between 12-metre and 9-metre models, with the smaller vehicles meant for narrow roads and rural areas.
