What happened
A joint operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Manipur Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two accused in the abduction and killing of six Liangmai Naga civilians in Manipur.
The two accused were identified as Lungoulal Vaiphei and Lunminthang Sitlhou. They were arrested from Lei lon Vaiphei and Molhoi village respectively, in the Leimakhong area of Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district.
UPSC may use this case to test the role of the National Investigation Agency, the coordination of central and state security forces, and the challenge of restoring law and order amid ethnic conflict. The case also raises questions on witness-led investigation, hostage release, and durable peace-building in a divided social setting.
