The West Bengal government has constituted a committee led by a retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, to evaluate the draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill.
This step follows the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto promise to implement the UCC. The committee will have four weeks to make its recommendations, addressing issues like banning polygamy and enforcing gender equality in property rights.
