What happened
The Election Commission of India revised the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls for the second time within a month. The Commission extended door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) until August 17 and pushed final electoral roll publication to October 27. The schedule change followed a request from Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar, citing slow progress in the enumeration process.
Background and earlier schedule
The SIR exercise for Delhi’s electoral rolls started on June 30. The earlier plan targeted completion of distribution and collection of enumeration forms within about a month after the start. On July 15, the Election Commission of India announced a first extension to conclude the forms work related to the first door-to-door verification deadline by August 8.
